Red Columbine
Red Columbine, aquilegia canadensis, is a Native Canadian wildflower which serves as one of the first plants to bloom in spring and provide nectar for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Red Columbine is a fuss-free wildflower that can tolerate a large range of soil and sun types, so it can be grown in sun or shade. Interestingly, it can even grow beneath evergreen trees, and is deer-resistant.
Note: Seeds require a cold period called stratification in order to germinate. For this reason, seeds are best sown outdoors in the fall.
