Orange Butterflyweed
Orange Butterflyweed, asclepias tuberosa, is a native perennial must-have for Monarch Butterflies. These plants grow to about 3 feet tall, and their bright orange blossoms add a cheerful colour to Waystations and meadows!
Although it's sometimes called Butterfly Milkweed, this species has no milky sap.
The Monarch Butterfly population has declined a staggering 90% over the past 2 decades due to the loss of their natural habitat. Planting native milkweeds in your garden will help support these amazing North American butterflies!
Sow the seeds by scattering outdoors in late fall, and Mother Nature will take care of the temperature and moisture conditions. Or, if you're planting in spring, remember to cold stratify your seeds first.
Blooms in late summer, and does best in full sun. Once established, it will effortlessly thrive on its own.

A Water-Saving Choice
This plant is drought tolerant, meaning it doesn't need to be watered often once it's established. This is great for busy gardeners, forgetful gardeners, or gardeners looking to reduce the amount of fresh water used in their garden.
