Obedient Plant
Obedient Plant, physostegia virginiana, is a Native Canadian wildflower that will impress your friends due to one neat party trick: individual flower stems will remain in whichever direction you point them in!
This plant blooms in late summer and will spread via underground rhyzomes (it's in the mint family), so it's great for naturalizing a large area. Obedient Plant produces plenty of nectar and will attract Native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Note: Seeds require a cold period called stratification in order to germinate. For this reason, seeds are best sown outdoors in the fall.
