Blue Wild Indigo
Blue Wild Indigo, baptisia australis, is a slow-growing Native Canadian perennial which boasts deep indigo blue flowers, one of the rarest colours in nature. This is one of those plants that only gets better with time, and it has been documented to live for 25 years or more! The first few growing seasons are slow for Blue Wild Indigo, as it focuses on growing a solid root system, but these prized blue flowers are worth the wait.
Standing approx 4 feet tall, Blue Wild Indigo is a great landscaping solution for Native Canadian gardens.
Note: Seeds require a cold period called stratification in order to germinate. For this reason, seeds are best sown outdoors in the fall. Seed germination of this species also requires seed scarification. This is an intermediate germination technique.
Scarification: To scarify a seed, lightly rub it against sandpaper or a nail file. Only scratch deep enough to allow water to penetrate the inner seed coat.
