Purple Coneflower Echinacea
Purple Coneflower, echinacea purpurea, is a Canadian native perennial found in prairies, meadows and woodland edges. Coneflowers are a good food source for pollinators like monarch butterflies and honey bees, and for that reason coneflowers are an important Waystation plant. For centuries, Indigenous Peoples have used the roots of Echinacea to help with many conditions, and there are many recipes available online today.
Purple Coneflower plants grow 2 to 4 feet in height with dark green foliage. Like many perennials, they may not bloom in the first year. Once established, they'll grow quickly and self-sow their seeds, blooming from midsummer through to the first frost.
Scientists debate if coneflower seeds need a cold period (called stratification) in order to germinate. Many home gardeners report excellent germination results using fall sowing techniques.

A Water-Saving Choice
This plant is drought tolerant, meaning it doesn't need to be watered often once it's established. This is great for busy gardeners, forgetful gardeners, or gardeners looking to reduce the amount of fresh water used in their garden.
Important Note
Seeds are packaged by volume and therefore all seed counts should be deemed approximate.
